Australian Government Parental Leave Pay has expanded again, with eligible families able to receive up to 130 days — equivalent to 26 weeks based on a five-day work week — for a child born or adopted from 1 July 2026.
Services Australia says the 2026–27 payment rate is $200.94 a day before tax, or $1,004.70 for a five-day week. The payment is taxable and eligibility rules still apply.
The scheme has also entered a new phase for superannuation. Services Australia says a 12 per cent Paid Parental Leave Superannuation Contribution will be paid by the Australian Taxation Office for eligible Parental Leave Pay relating to children born or adopted from 1 July 2025. Those contributions begin to be paid from July 2026.
For partnered parents claiming for a child born or adopted from 1 July 2026, 20 Parental Leave Pay days are reserved for the partner to use. Families can decide how to share the remaining available days within the scheme’s rules.
Nepali-Australian families planning for a new baby should check eligibility and claim timing directly with Services Australia rather than relying on older information, because the number of available days and payment rate have changed over successive financial years.
