Nepal reduced fuel prices at the beginning of July after global oil prices eased.
According to Reuters, state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation cut retail petrol prices by 9.2 per cent, diesel by 13.3 per cent and cooking gas by 4.6 per cent. Jet fuel prices were also reduced, with different reductions applying to domestic and international aviation fuel.
The new rates took effect on 1 July 2026.
Fuel prices have a broad effect on Nepal’s economy because the country is dependent on imported petroleum. Changes can flow through to transport costs, aviation, goods distribution and household expenses.
The reductions followed a period of global energy disruption linked to conflict in the Middle East. Nepal had previously increased petrol and diesel prices and introduced cooking-gas rationing as supply conditions deteriorated.
For households, the cut provides some relief, although the final effect on wider living costs depends on how quickly lower fuel costs flow through to transport and goods prices.
Nepalis abroad also watch fuel and inflation closely because everyday costs influence the value and purchasing power of remittances sent home.
